The MV Marabell was built in 1941 as part of the YMS Class of wooden mine sweepers built for the US Navy. She was originally commissioned USS YMS-91.
She was later sold to a private owner, before being sold into the Royal Canadian Hydrographic Service. After a period out of service, the MV Marabell was used in various commercial operations, including as a floating fishing “hotel”.
In 2016, the MV Marabell was acquired by Dane Developments Ltd of Courtenay, British Columbia.
